Ingredients
- 5 medium/large apples (Granny Smith & Macoun)
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1/4–1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- Homemade pie crust or biscuit dough
Instructions
- Prepare the apples by peeling and slicing them thinly. In a bowl, mix sliced apples with lemon juice, brown sugar, granulated sugar (to taste), cornstarch, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
- Roll out the pie dough to about 1/8 inch thick and cut into rounds.
- Place a spoonful of apple filling in each round, fold to create a half-moon shape, and seal the edges.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Arrange hand pies on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and brush tops with melted butter.
- Bake for about 20 minutes until golden brown. Let cool slightly before serving.
