- 1 tbsp vanilla
- 1 cup (240 ml) buttermilk, at room temperature
- 9 tbsp (126 g) unsalted butter for caramel sauce
- 3/4 cup (165 g) brown sugar for caramel sauce
- 1 cup (240 ml) heavy cream for caramel sauce
- 1 1/2 tsp vanilla for caramel sauce
- 1/4 tsp salt for caramel sauce
- 8 oz (226 g) cream cheese, cold for frosting
- 2 cups (260 g) powdered sugar for frosting
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking pan.
- In a saucepan, melt unsalted butter over medium heat until golden brown and fragrant.
- In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In another bowl, mix granulated and brown sugar with browned butter; add eggs one at a time along with vanilla, mixing until smooth. Incorporate buttermilk.
- Gradually fold in the dry ingredients using a spatula until just combined.
- Pour batter into the prepared pan and bake for about 36 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Let cool completely.
- Prepare caramel sauce by combining unsalted butter, brown sugar, heavy cream, vanilla extract, and salt in a saucepan over medium heat until thickened.
- For frosting, beat cold cream cheese with powdered sugar until smooth.
- Once cooled, frost the top of the cake generously with cream cheese frosting and drizzle with caramel sauce.
