- 8 oz (225 g) dark chocolate, chopped
- 1 cup heavy cream
- Fresh orange slices or candied orange peel
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line three 8-inch round cake pans.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Add eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry mixture; mix until smooth.
- Stir in hot coffee or water until fully blended.
- Divide batter among prepared pans and bake for 25–30 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Let cakes cool completely before transferring to wire racks.
- For the orange filling, whisk sugar, cornstarch, and egg yolks in a saucepan; slowly add orange juice while stirring. Cook over medium heat until thickened; remove from heat and stir in zest and butter. Cool completely.
- For ganache, heat heavy cream until steaming; pour over chopped chocolate and let sit for 2 minutes before stirring until smooth.
- Assemble the cake by layering it with orange filling between each layer; pour ganache over the top and let it drip down the sides.
