- ¾ cup granulated sugar
- ¼ cup brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into small cubes
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- 1 tablespoon coarse sugar (optional, for sprinkling)
Instructions
- For the crust: Combine flour, salt, and sugar in a bowl. Cut in butter until crumbly. Add ice water until dough forms. Chill for one hour.
- For the filling: Toss sliced apples with sugars, flour, spices, vanilla extract, and lemon juice; set aside.
