  • 1 pound fresh crab meat (Dungeness or blue crabs)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons parsley, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons chives, finely chopped
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 French baguette, sliced into 1/2-inch pieces
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Optional: 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese and 1 teaspoon paprika

Instructions

  1. If using fresh crabs, steam them until bright red (about 10 minutes). Allow them to cool before extracting the meat.
  2. In a small saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Add minced garlic and sauté until fragrant (about 1-2 minutes).
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine crab meat, melted garlic butter, lemon juice, parsley, chives, salt, and pepper. Mix gently.
  4. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  5. Arrange baguette slices on a baking sheet; brush with olive oil on both sides.
  6. Toast in the oven for about 5-7 minutes until golden brown.
  7. Spoon crab mixture onto toasted bread; top with cheese if desired.
  8. Bake for an additional 5 minutes until flavors meld.
  9. Garnish with paprika before serving.
