Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 lbs beef chuck or stew meat
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced (plus extra for naan)
  • 1-inch piece fresh ginger, grated
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 can (14 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 cup coconut milk
  • 1 tbsp curry powder
  • 1 tbsp garam masala
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • ½ tsp turmeric
  • ½ tsp chili powder (optional)
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • Fresh cilantro, chopped, for garnish
  • Cooked basmati rice, for serving
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour (for naan)
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 2 tsp active dry yeast

Instructions

  1. Prepare Naan Dough: In a bowl, combine flour, sugar, salt, and yeast. Gradually add warm water to form a soft dough. Knead until smooth and let it rise for 30 minutes.
  2. Cook Beef Curry: Heat oil in a pot over medium heat; sauté onion until translucent. Add garlic and ginger; cook until fragrant. Stir in tomato paste and crushed tomatoes; cook for 5 minutes. Add beef, broth, milk, and spices; bring to a boil then simmer covered for about 1.5 hours.
  3. Make Naan: Preheat skillet over medium-high heat. Divide dough into four parts; roll each into flat rounds. Cook each naan for about 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  4. Serve: Adjust seasoning of the curry with salt and pepper as needed. Garnish with fresh cilantro before serving hot with rice and naan.
