  • 1/2 cup brown sugar (for topping)
  • 1/4 cup chopped pecans (for topping)
  • 1 1/2 cups very hot water

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a medium bowl, mix together all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves.
  3. In another bowl, combine pumpkin puree, milk, melted butter (or vegetable oil), and vanilla extract until smooth.
  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry mixture and stir until combined.
  5. Spread the batter evenly in an 8-inch casserole dish.
  6. In a separate bowl, mix together granulated sugar, brown sugar, and chopped pecans; sprinkle over the batter.
  7. Carefully pour very hot water over the entire mixture without stirring.
  8. Bake for about 40 minutes until the center is set.
  9. Allow to cool for 5–10 minutes before serving.
