Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup granulated sugar (for caramel)
  • ¼ cup water (for caramel)
  • ½ cup heavy cream (for caramel)
  • 1 teaspoon salt (for caramel)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. In a mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt; gradually combine with wet ingredients.
  4. For the salted caramel, heat granulated sugar and water in a saucepan until dissolved; let boil until amber colored. Remove from heat and slowly whisk in heavy cream and salt.
  5. Spread half of the cookie dough into the baking dish, layer half of the salted caramel on top. Drop spoonfuls of remaining dough over this layer and drizzle with remaining caramel.
  6. Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown; cool completely before cutting into bars.
