Ingredients
- 1.5 pounds beef belly, cut into 1-inch pieces
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 thumb-sized piece of ginger, peeled and sliced
- ¼ cup light soy sauce
- ¼ cup dark soy sauce
- ⅓ cup apple cider vinegar
- ¼ cup hoisin sauce
- ¼ cup brown sugar
- 1 cup water
- Green onions and sesame seeds for garnish
Instructions
- Heat vegetable oil in a large pan over medium heat. Sear the beef belly until browned on all sides (5–7 minutes). Remove and set aside.
- In the same pan, sauté minced garlic and sliced ginger for about 1–2 minutes until fragrant.
- Return the seared beef to the pan. Add light soy sauce, dark soy sauce, apple cider vinegar, hoisin sauce, brown sugar, and water. Stir well to coat the beef.
- Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce to low heat and simmer uncovered for 1 to 1½ hours until the beef is tender and the sauce thickens into a sticky glaze.
- Adjust seasoning if necessary before serving hot, garnished with chopped green onions and sesame seeds.
