  • 5 tablespoons unsalted butter (softened, for filling)
  • 4 ounces full-fat cream cheese (for frosting)
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter (softened, for frosting)
  • 1 ¼ cups powdered sugar (for frosting)
  • Pinch of salt (for frosting)
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice (for frosting)

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine warmed milk and yeast; let sit until frothy.
  2. Mix in egg, sugar, lemon zest, melted butter, and salt. Gradually add flour until a soft dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface until smooth. Let it rise in an oiled bowl until doubled.
  4. Roll out the dough into a rectangle; spread with softened butter and sprinkle sugar and lemon zest.
  5. Roll tightly into a log and cut into pieces; place on a baking sheet to rise again.
  6. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for about 28 minutes until golden brown.
  7. Prepare frosting by beating cream cheese, softened butter, powdered sugar, salt, and lemon juice until smooth.
