Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 2 shallots (finely diced)
  • 2 jalapeños (finely diced)
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 large egg
  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon fine sea salt
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon paprika
  • ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 1 1/2 sticks unsalted butter (cold and cubed)
  • 1 cup goat cheese (crumbled)
  • 1 large egg (for egg wash)
  • 1 teaspoon water
  • 2 tablespoons honey (for drizzling)
  • Flaky sea salt for topping (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, salt, baking powder, baking soda, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, and red pepper flakes. Cut in cold butter until it resembles coarse crumbs. Fold in shallots and jalapeños.
  3. Whisk together buttermilk, honey, and an egg in another bowl; pour into dry ingredients and mix gently until combined.
  4. Fold in crumbled goat cheese without overmixing.
  5. Turn dough onto a floured surface; pat into a circle about 1 inch thick. Cut into wedges or use a round cutter.
  6. Brush tops with an egg wash (1 egg mixed with 1 tsp water) before placing on the baking sheet.
  7. Bake for 15 minutes until golden brown.
