  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp ube extract
  • 6 tbsp softened unsalted butter (for dough)
  • 1 tbsp softened unsalted butter (for filling)
  • 3¼ cups all-purpose flour
  • ⅓ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 package instant dry yeast (2¼ tsp)
  • ⅓ cup ube halaya jam
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • ½ cup softened cream cheese (for frosting)
  • 2 tbsp softened unsalted butter (for frosting)
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract (for frosting)
  • confection sugar (for frosting)

Instructions

  1. Combine warm milk and yeast in a stand mixer bowl; let sit.
  2. Add egg, butter, and sugar; mix until well combined.
  3. Gradually incorporate salt and flour; knead until slightly sticky.
  4. Proof the dough in a greased bowl for about 30 minutes until doubled.
  5. Prepare filling by mixing butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, and ube halaya jam.
  6. Roll out the dough, spread the filling evenly, then roll tightly into a log.
  7. Cut into rolls and place in a greased baking pan; allow to rise again for another 30 minutes.
  8. Pour heavy cream over rolls and bake at 350°F for 21–23 minutes until golden brown.
  9. Whip together frosting ingredients while rolls bake; frost once cooled.
